Women of the ELCA
Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America...now that's a mouthful! WELCA stands for Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It is the women's ministry organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
Here at Faith, the WELCA women gather for Bible study, quilting, special events and more, in our synod, and beyond. Their offerings of time, talent and treasure are given to WELCA over and above their regular offerings given to the church. The same
women who are active in WELCA also serve in every aspect of our life here at
Faith - as Church Council and committee members, worship helpers, and
more. Something happens when women come together to strengthen their
relationship with God and with each other. That something – that Someone –
is the Holy Spirit! All women are always welcome!
Core Mission and Purpose
Mission: To mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
Purpose: As a community created in God’s image, members commit to growing in faith, affirming their gifts, supporting one another, and promoting healing and wholeness in the church and the world.
How does WELCA work?
The congregational, inter-congregational and special units are the largest expression of the organization and are the heart of the organization. This is where we grow the organization, inviting women to experience the reconciling and transforming love of God through Jesus Christ, encouraging women to act on their baptismal covenant.
What does the Logo mean?
The logo—with the cross, water and a white lily—identifies women of the ELCA as children of God; baptized, forgiven, adopted into God’s family, full of grace and hope in eternal life. It is a reminder of the growth, beauty, and vitality that rises out of that life-giving baptismal water. It is also a reminder of the mission of the church to “Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19).
