Beginning Our New Mission

I am very excited about our upcoming Mission Awareness Month, during which we will be lifting up some of the important work we do in the name of Christ with special presentations and activities.

September 5 - Our Local Mission with Menifee Valley Community Cupboard - We have an ongoing mission of feeding the hungry in our community. Don't forget to bring peanut butter for our special drive.

September 12 - Our Mission in Our Homes and Communities - We will install our Sunday School, and consider the important mission we have as parents and grandparents to pass the faith onto future generations.

September 19 - The Lutheran Malaria Initiative - An exciting effort to try to stop, or significantly reduce, the deadly effects of malaria worldwide.

September 26 - Lutheran World Relief - We will celebrate our participation in this very effective global relief agency, including the dedication of our Snip n' Stitch quilts.

September 26 - Annual Leadership Retreat - The leaders of our congregation are invited to join together after coffee hour to discuss ways that we might renew our ministry and review our Long-range Plans.

But wait, there's more! In the month of September we are beginning a very exciting and important mission as Stephanie Lape begins her two year, part-time internship with us. Stephanie will be gaining valuable practical experience as she trains to become an ordained minister in the ELCA. She will be "wearing the hat" of a pastor serving our congregation, gaining valuable experience in as much of congregational life as she can. Pastor Stephanie (which is what you can call her) will be will be involved in worship leadership, preaching, teaching, attending and leading study groups, participating in council and committee meetings, and visiting. She will be supervised by me and will have the support and feedback of our Internship Committee.

What is our role in this mission?

  • 1. Pray for Pastor Stephanie
  • 2. To offer welcome and support to Pastor Stephanie and her family
  • 3. Feel free to invite Pastor Stephanie to activities, but remember that she is balancing parish work with seminary course work and family time. Do not be offended if she answers, "no." And be flexible with your schedules, too.
  • 4. Understand that Pastor Stephanie is learning; do not demand perfection. It is only natural to make mistakes, or be insecure in some areas of ministry. I know from my experience that Pastor Stephanie is highly gifted and I believe that she will prove a wonderful asset to our ministry and to the church. But remember that she is in training. Also, help her out by answering questions and showing her how you get things done.
  • It is an important mission for us to serve as a Teaching Congregation; we are helping to shape a pastor in the church, a servant of Christ and leader in the community of faith. While Stephanie will begin her internship with us in September, we will officially install her and the Internship Committee during Worship on Sunday, October 3.

God Bless Us in Our Mission Together,

    Pastor Mark
